Portland Police arrested a 33-year-old protester Monday evening for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Robert Martin says Rocco Wong, from Portland, was one of ten demonstrators who surrounded a 50-year-old motorcyclist from South Portland who had stopped at an intersection.
“When the group encircled him he got off his motorcycle because he felt threatened,” says Martin. “At that time one member of the group displayed a handgun that was concealed under his shirt and then made some threatening statements towards this motorcycle rider.”
Martin says the motorcyclist identified Wong, who was apprehended by police after he moved away from the group and found to be in possession of a handgun, which was seized. Police say he was arrested without incident and released on $250 bail.
Martin says the ten were part of a group of under 100 people protesting in front of Portland City Hall and the police station, but he could not confirm what they were protesting against.
