Deering High School workers assemble bag lunches Tuesday from food dropped off by the restaurants Little Giant and Chaval.

"It's right for the community, it's right for our staff," Malin says. "And it's right for what's happening in this world right now.”

John Woods co-directs the group. "It's really about  providing access to these meals. So there's no interruption for these kids and they can come and get something delicious to eat and head back home to the safety of their house because schools are closed," Woods says.

The restaurants are motivated to pitch in after schools throughout the city were closed in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Participating restaurants and schools aim to distribute 3,400 meals throughout the day. Organizers say they intend to continue the efforts as needed.
