Power crews in Maine are gearing up for a wild night of weather.
“We have actually been preparing since the weekend,” says Catherine Hartnett, a spokesperson for Central Maine Power.
Hartnett says 100 CMP crews will be joined by 150 contractor crews and 100 tree crews to respond to the potential effect of high winds and heavy rains expected Monday night.
The company, she says, is keeping an especially watchful eye on Maine’s Midcoast.
“Brunswick, Harpswell, and up a little north of there, tends to get the brunt of storms like this,” Hartnett says. “The soil there is quite shallow, and if the trees are not frozen into the ground yet, we get uprooted trees that are outside our trimming zone, falling into the line.”
Ands she says getting power restored to those areas can take a while due to narrow, winding coastal roads that are harder to access.
Forecasters say some areas could see 2-3 inches of rain, with strong winds gusting 50-60 mph.
