Presque Isle police say there has been a shooting in the general vicinity of the Presque Isle International Airport.
The person, or persons responsible have not been apprehended, police say. Meanwhile, area schools have been placed on lockdown as a precaution, authorities say, and they’re advising residents and people at work to remain inside.
University of Maine at Presque Isle student Laura Fitzgerald says she didn't expect to receive a lockdown email around 7 a.m.
"I was scared but then kind of surprised cause like, Presque Isle is such a small town,” she says. “I assumed it would be something near a big city, but Presque Isle is one of those small places I didn't think anything would happen."
Yet, Fitzgerald says authorities, businesses and institutions seem to be responding appropriately to the situation.
Police are currently looking for the shooter. One person is being treated in an area hospital.
