AUGUSTA, Maine — Several former and current workers at the state-run Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta are speaking out about what they describe as staff discontent at the facility.
Two women who work as social workers at the 92-bed hospital tell the Kennebec Journal they formally complained that they were subject to a hostile work environment that included bullying by fellow employees.
Other workers say when they report a problem with patient care they are seen as the problem by their superiors.
The hospital has come under fire about how dangerous patients are handled. The facility last September lost federal certification and $20 million in funding.
A spokesman for the state Department of Health and Human Services, which operates Riverview, said while unable to comment on personnel decisions, the hospital is focused on patient care.
