Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Student Changing Plea

A former teacher at a private Christian school in Maine accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student is expected to change his plea to guilty this month.

Thirty-seven-year-old Derek Michael Boyce was arrested in September after police say the girl's mother caught him at her Lisbon home with her daughter and called police. The Portland Press Herald reports he initially pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, but prosecutors confirm a change of plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 30.

Boyce's attorney did not return a request for comment Thursday.

Boyce had worked as a math teacher at Pine Tree Academy in Freeport, a private Seventh-day Adventist school with students in kindergarten through 12th grade. He has since been fired.
