Tropical Storm Brings Heavy Weather

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The National Weather Service says central and southeast New Hampshire and southern Maine are under a flash flood watch and heavy bands of rain are expected in both states from Hurricane Arthur.

Forecaster Chris Kimble says rain is underway and will increase into this morning. He also says coastal New Hampshire and Maine are under a high surf advisory for Saturday because of Arthur.

Utilities report Thursday night's heavy rains caused power outages around Maine. Emera Maine says thunderstorms left people in the dark throughout Aroostook County. A spokesman says the county had 1,584 affected customers early Friday morning but was down to about 60 at 10:30 a.m.

Central Maine Power says a power line fire in Portland cut power to 300 customers. Sixty-eight remained out Friday morning.
