Maine teammates celebrate after scoring a goal during an NCAA college hockey game against Quinnipiac, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, in Hamden, Conn.

The University of Maine is pausing its winter athletics season through at least Dec. 8 due to the number of positive COVID-19 tests on campus.

Those cases include people associated with varsity sports programs.

The school says games will be canceled, and any traveling teams will return to campus and follow public health guidance. Practices will also be altered.

The school says it will “re-evaluate the situation” on Dec. 8.
