Veteran Fireman Tapped as Portland Fire Chief

 PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Maine's largest city is naming a veteran firefighter to be its next fire chief.

    City Manager Jon Jennings has recommended David Jackson to serve as the next fire chief of Portland. Jackson has been a member of the Portland Fire Department for more than 25 years and has served as the acting chief of the department since October.

    Jackson was the assistant chief of emergency operations before becoming acting fire chief.

    Jackson's annual salary will be $112,554 if he is approved by the City Council. The council will vote on Jackson's appointment on Monday.
