A federal judge has awarded $1.1 million to a woman who says she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a former Maine State Prison guard.

A Superior Court judge has ruled that a Republican candidate for district attorney in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties has violated several Maine bar rules, including unlawful conduct. Seth Carey will now face a hearing to consider whether any sanctions should be imposed, including possible disbarment.

A prisoner who walked away from the Mountain View Correctional Center in Charleston last Thursday has been taken into custody.  The Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office says Arnold Nash was found in the Charleston area at about 7 o'clock Tuesday morning.

The lawyer for John Williams – the man accused of killing Somerset County Deputy Corporal Eugene Cole this April – is asking a judge to suppress Williams’ confession. Williams was the subject of a four-day long manhunt following the discovery of Corporal Cole’s body near a house in Norridgewock, and, according to his attorney, he was badly beaten while in custody.

PORTLAND, Maine - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission says a Kittery man has agreed to pay nearly $400,000 in fines and interest for illegally soliciting investors for a medical cannabis operation on Craigslist.
 
The Portland Press Herald reports that the commission says Richard J. Greenlaw raised about $500,000 from at least 59 investors across the country by offering securities in 20 cannabis-related businesses on the website although he was not registered with the SEC.
