The Maine Climate Council has voted to adopt recommendations for the state’s Climate Action Plan. The document is meant to guide the state toward reaching its climate and carbon goals.

Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island have announced efforts to bar a class of chemicals used in refrigerators and air conditioning that are a growing source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Government scientists told the state's climate council Wednesday that Maine has been reducing its overall emissions of climate-warming pollution over the last several decades. And they say that the carbon-absorbing capacity of Maine's vast forests could ease the road to meeting ambitious goals set by Gov. Janet Mills and the Legislature.

After getting several Maine towns to agree to address climate change, student activists are now calling on the state to declare a "climate emergency."

Gov. Janet Mills has called for a new, concerted state effort to coordinate Maine’s efforts to deal with climate change. The Maine Climate Council launches on Sept. 26. We’ll hear from key members about the goals and challenges for the council. This show is scheduled to coincide with the UN Climate Action Summit, where Mills will address the UN General Assembly.
