Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family that owns the company have proposed a settlement for thousands of lawsuits filed against the company for its aggressive sales of the addictive pain drug Oxycontin. Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey says the state will not accept the deal.

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine is not joining a tentative opioid-crisis settlement between the family that owns OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma and a number of state and local governments.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey is suing Purdue Pharma in Kennebec County Superior Court for unfair trade practices in its opioid marketing. The suit filed on Monday also names members of the Sackler family, who own Purdue.
