Waterville

A seven-year-old Waterville girl injured in a drive-by shooting nearly a week ago has left the Portland hospital where she had been treated, and is heading back to Waterville.

Emahleeah Frost was shot in the back Friday afternoon while having a snack in her bedroom. The Morning Sentinel is reporting that the family will not be returning to that apartment. The girl's mother told the paper that her daughter doesn't want to go back there, and that the family will be staying in a hotel for a week while they find a place to live.

WATERVILLE, Maine - Maine State Police and investigators in Waterville say the shooting incident which left a seven-year old child injured Friday afternoon was, apparently, a drive-by shooting.

The child had recently returned home from school and was struck from inside her family's second floor apartment on the corner of Gold and Summer Streets Friday afternoon.

"Someone shot — most likely from a vehicle — shot inside the home and struck this little girl as she was playing inside her bedroom," Maine Public Safety Spokesperson Steven McCausland said on Saturday.
