ALFRED, Maine (AP) _ Maine State Police say the driver of a York County Sheriff's Department van that was hit by a tractor-trailer had a suspended license.
State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says Roger Lanoie of Shapley was cited for operating after suspension on Tuesday. His license was suspended for failing to pay a civil fine for a seat belt violation.
York County Maj. Thomas Baron said Lanoie wasn't aware of the suspension, and that officers are working to clear up the mistake.
McCausland says the tractor-trailer driver, 49-year-old Edward Reilly, of Rochester, New Hampshire, was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle, which hit the van parked on a shoulder. Lanoie was making a phone call. He and his passenger were both hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
