Maine Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Woman

BELFAST, Maine (AP) _ A Maine man charged with killing a woman and seriously injuring her son has withdrawn his insanity defense and pleaded guilty under a deal with prosecutors.

Under the deal, prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 50 years for Todd Gilday of Belfast. WZON-AM reported that Gilday pleaded guilty Monday to murder, attempted murder and elevated aggravated assault.

Gilday was accused of forcing himself into a Belfast home last August and killing 55-year-old Lynn Arsenault of Garland, who was visiting her 22-year-old son, Mathew Day. Day was shot in the stomach, but survived.

After the shooting, Gilday checked him into a hospital's psychiatric and addiction recovery unit. The shooting happened on Gilday's birthday.
