PORTLAND, Maine — Maine's former top drug prosecutor who fled the state after he was convicted of child pornography charges faces sentencing this week.
A lawyer for James Cameron wrote in a court memo that he will seek a 6 1/2-year prison term for his client at sentencing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
The Portland Press Herald reports that attorney David Beneman says the 52-year-old Cameron's struggles with depression and family problems led to his downfall.
Cameron was convicted in 2010 of 13 counts of child pornography but was released on bail pending an appeal.
He fled in November 2012 and was arrested in New Mexico the following month.
Prosecutors had previously requested a "guidelines sentence" for Cameron that could be up to 36 years in prison.
