Bail Denied for Man Accused of Murdering UMaine Basketball Player

A judge has denied bail for an Illinois man accused of murdering a former University of Maine basketball player.

Fifty-one-year-old Jeffrey Keller, of Hinsdale, Illinois, was arrested and charged with first degree murder in the December shooting of 37-year-old Nate Fox in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

Police Chief Frank Giammarese says the crime appears to have been one motivated by jealousy. He says Keller believed that Fox was coming between a woman and himself.

"So it appears that he may have been almost stalking Nate Fox, or he put some things in motion to carry out this act on Dec. 22."

Keller appeared in court on a bond hearing this morning. Prosecutors say that Keller admitted the killing to a friend, who then allowed law enforcement officers to track the pair's communications.

Fox was a sports stand-out at University of Maine, and later played professional basketball in Europe.

Keller is due back in court on Jan. 21.
