PLYMOUTH, Mass. - A man from northern Maine charged with using a shotgun to randomly shoot two people in Massachusetts has been ordered by a judge to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Not guilty pleas to multiple charges including attempted murder were entered on behalf of 25-year-old Lucas McPherson, of Mapleton, Maine, at his arraignment Monday in Plymouth District Court.
Police say the first victim, a 33-year-old man, was driving in Duxbury at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday when he was shot by someone in another vehicle. About 20 minutes later, another man was shot as he let his dog out. Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police found McPherson near where the second man was shot. Police subdued McPherson with a Taser.
His court-appointed attorney said McPherson is not mentally competent for trial.
