EPA Holds Hearing on Power Plant Emissions

PORTLAND, Maine — The Environmental Protection Agency's New England chief is attending a public hearing to get feedback on the first-ever federal standards for power plants.

The hearing set for Wednesday at the University of Southern Maine focuses on President Barack Obama's plan to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

The EPA rule is one of the most significant actions to address global warming in U.S. history. EPA regional chief Curt Spaulding will describe the proposed rule and hear what Maine people think about it.

The Island institute, Maine Medical Association, Friends of Casco Bay and Natural Resources Council of Maine are among the groups that will have speakers at the event.
