The U.S. Senate today confirmed former Colby College president William "Bro" Adams as chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
That's according to Maine's two U.S. Senators, Susan Collins and Angus King. Adams was nominated to the post earlier this year by President Obama.
"Dr. Adams is a proven leader whose engagement and direction have enriched the State of Maine," Collins says in a statement.
"Throughout his career, Dr. Adams has demonstrated strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to the humanities," King says in the same joint statement. "I am exceedingly confident that he will build on that legacy as chairman of the NEH and guide the agency with the same ability and character he has shown at Colby."
Adams was president of Colby from 2000 to the end of this June. He is a Vietnam War veteran and Fulbright Scholar, and a former MPBN board member.
