Indiana Man Survives Crash Landing Plane in Maine

STANDISH, Maine — Maine authorities say the pilot of a small plane escaped serious injury after his bi-plane experienced mechanical problems and he crash landed it on a road in Standish, missing traffic.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old Williams J. Worth, of Indiana, was headed to the Sanford Airport about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after leaving Frenchville when the plane malfunctioned and he tried to land it on Northeast Road.

Authorities say the plane hit some oak tree branches and telephone wires, Worth lost control of the plane and it crashed. Worth was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
