Augusta Police Chief Still in Hospital After Crash

LEWISTON, Maine - Augusta's police chief remains hospitalized after suffering an injury in a motorcycle crash during an off-duty charity event.

Chief Robert Gregoire crashed during a Shriners ride in Jay on Saturday. A spokesman for Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston says the 49-year-old Gregoire is still in the hospital but his condition was not immediately available.

The Kennebec Journal reported on Monday that Gregoire was in critical condition.

Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw was riding another motorcycle and was also hurt. The hospital treated and released the 45-year-old. Gregoire's 47-year-old wife, Cathy Gregoire, was a passenger on Gregoire's motorcycle and was also injured, treated and released.
