Judge: Police Assault Investigation Details Closed

HALLOWELL, Maine - A judge says the Maine State Police do not have to release the details of an investigation into a sexual assault complaint brought against the chief of the Hallowell Police Department by one his subordinates.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Supreme Court Justice Donald Marden says the report contains too much personal information and releasing it serves no compelling public interest. The Journal filed a request seeking records of the investigation into Chief Eric Nason. A 22-year-old female officer whom he still supervises alleged the sexual assault took place in June 2013.

The district attorney's office did not file any criminal charges as a result of the state police investigation. A spokesman for the Maine Attorney General's Office says the state supports the decision not to release the details.
