OAKLAND, Maine (AP) _ Police say a woman was struck after she deliberately walked in front of a tractor trailer on a Maine interstate.
Maine State Police say 65-year-old Marilyn Whitford of Orono parked her van along the breakdown lane along I-95 in Oakland on Friday, stepped out of the van and walked into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.
Police said a review of the truck's dash camera showed that the woman's actions were deliberate. Officials say the driver, 42-year-old Martin Thurston of Fairfield, attempted to swerve out of the way and likely hit her with the trailer portion of the truck.
The woman was taken to MaineGeneral and then transported via Lifeflight to Bangor's Eastern Maine Medical Center. Officials say her injuries don't appear to be life threatening.
