Maine Man Turns Self in After Hit-and-Run

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - A Maine man is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and other crimes in connection with a hit-and-run in South Portland.

State police say 27-year-old Brett Catruch of Portland turned himself in to police several hours after a man was found lying unconscious in the roadway at a South Portland intersection just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities say the man was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

In addition to leaving the scene of an accident, Catruch is charged with operating under the influence and violating the conditions of his release.

He is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail pending his arraignment Friday. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.

Police have not yet released the victim's name.
