PORTLAND, Maine - Maine's highest court is giving the town of Kennebunkport a second chance to try to keep Goose Rocks Beach open to the public.
The Supreme Judicial Court in February ruled in favor of beachfront landowners before making a rare decision to hear arguments from town lawyers asking the court to reconsider.
On Tuesday, the court issued a ruling more favorable to the town that said that the claim to a public easement can be reconsidered but first there must be an examination of property titles of individual lot owners who are trying to claim beachfront land to the low-tide mark.
Amy Tchao, an attorney for Kennebunkport, says the ruling breathes new life into the town's attempt to keep the entire beach open for public use.
