Game Company Renames Maine Island 'Hawaii 2'

AUGUSTA, Maine - Game-making company Cards Against Humanity has purchased a 6-acre private island in Maine and is renaming it "Hawaii 2.''

The Portland Press Herald reports the company bought Birch Island in Waldo County for about $200,000 from a family trust. The island is located in St. George Lake, about 27 miles east of Augusta.

The company is sending certificates to about 250,000 participants in a holiday fundraising campaign in which it will grant each of them license to one square foot of the island. The campaign is dubbed "Ten Days or Whatever of Kwanzaa.'' One dollar from every $15 raised is going to the nonprofit Sunlight Foundation that promotes transparency in government.

The island now appears on Google Maps under the name Hawaii 2.
