PORTLAND, Maine — Maine families are hoping their loved ones in Nepal return safely following Saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
Family members say 57-year-old yoga instructor Dawn Habash of Augusta set out April 18 for an eight-to-10-day trek through Langtang National Park. Her family has not heard from her since, but is expecting word any day.
Portland photographer Doug Bruns and his 32-year-old son, Tim, were about a two-day hike away from Mount Everest base camp when the earthquake triggered a major avalanche. Doug's wife, Carole, says the two are safely making their way down the mountain.
Documentary filmmaker Alison Hudson of Southwest Harbor is also safe. She says braved the earthquake from the doorway of her Kathmandu apartment. Hudson says she will be leaving Nepal "with a heavy heart."
