PORTLAND, Maine_ The Portland Corps of the Salvation Army says it has not only reached, but exceeded an ambitious goal set for its iconic red Christmas Kettle campaign. Last month, the Portland Salvation Army announced a goal of $180K-about $40K more than it raised in last year's campaign.
"As of last night we had surpassed $195,000 and we still have some online kettle donations to add to the total." said Major Annette Lock of the Portland Corps. "These funds ensure that our programs continue and that vital services are available to those who need them throughout the coming year."
The organization says that the money will go to support its traditional charity services, for which need is growing, as well as new programs, including an outreach program on human trafficking.
