LEWISTON, Maine - Police say they expect to file a criminal charge after a dog was abandoned outside a Maine animal shelter and later hit and killed by a car.
TheSun Journal reports that police say they've identified the individual who left the dog in the parking lot of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston on Monday. Police didn't immediately reveal the person's identity.
The shelter has video showing the dog running after the car as it drove away.
The Humane Society said on its Facebook page that the dog was found Thursday morning. It says the dog was fatally struck by a car on a ramp to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge near the shelter.
Police say they plan to forward the case to the District Attorney's Office for review.
