AUGUSTA, Maine_ The Maine House and Senate adjourned the second session of the 127th Legislature Friday night in memory of Richard Kneeland . The former Representative and Senator from Aroostook County passed away on Thursday at the age of 82.
Among final actions in Augusta, the Legislature voted overwhelmingly to override Republican Gov. Paul LePage's veto of a bill to allow pharmacists to dispense, without a prescription, Narcan, a drug that can reverse an opiate overdose.
The legislature however failed to muster the votes to overturn the veto of a bill to modernize state policies on solar power.
Also, a Republican-backed plan to propose an alternative minimum wage hike died between chambers. The move was widely seen by Democrats as an attempt to circumvent a ballot issue in November seeking to raise the state's minimum to $12 per hour by 2020.
