Fisherman Pulled From Water At Maine Pier Dies
Authorities say a fisherman pulled from the water Wednesday morning near the Portland Fish Pier has died.
Portland Police Lieutenant Robert Martin says the 51-year old, who is not being identified at this time, was on a vessel that was pulling up to a wharf to dock.
“It was believed that he was going to assist in the docking of the vessel and how he fell, the manner he fell, is under investigation.”
Martin says crew from a Coast Guard ship that was docked on a nearby wharf saw the incident, launched a small rescue boat, and pulled the man out of the water. He was brought to a nearby pier where paramedics tried to resuscitate him. Martin says the man was transported to Maine Medical Center where he died.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
