Maine Police Investigating Domestic Violence Homicide Case In Newport

Jan 10, 2020

Maine State Police are investigating a domestic violence homicide, the first murder of the year.

Police have charged Frederick Allen with killing his wife, Anielka Allen, at their home in Newport. The Bangor Daily News is reporting that she had filed for divorce the month before, and then withdrew the request a week later.

Regina Rooney, with the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence, says the most dangerous time for a victim of domestic violence is when attempting to leave.

“Most people who are killed as a result of their partner's actions are killed when they're attempting to break free of their partner's control.” Maine's homicide rate in 2018, the most recent year for which data are available, is among the lowest in the country, but, of those, about half were the result of domestic violence.
