CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott is training for more gold, but he's also preparing for life after competition.
The Portland Press Herald reports Wescott is joining Winterstick Snowboards' ownership group. The company plans to open a custom snowboard-manufacturing shop at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, where the 39-year-old lives. He'll help design and manufacture the boards.
Wescott says it gives him another way to build his passion. He says it makes him refocus on what attracted him to the sport.
He won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics, but was sidelined during the Sochi Olympics in 2014. He took the 2014-2015 season off to recover from a knee injury and the death of his father. But he plans on competing in the World Cup circuit this winter.
