Member – $45.00Non-Member – $55.00Join our Artist in Residence for June, Christine Medley, to learn and create a carved relief stamp out of erasers and print on paper to form an instant book, or zine, made from a single sheet of paper. Then we would do the same process with cloth and make a instant cloth book. We will use found objects, stitching and eraser stamps, to create this artists book! Instructor Bio:Christine earned a MFA in printmaking from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has worked as graphic designer and educator for over 25 years and has been a printmaker since the 1980s, when she took her first printmaking class. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, she has followed a family tradition of letterpress printing. Her grandfather owned Omaha Typesetting until the early 1970s and now she is the owner and operator of The Workshop, a community letterpress and graphic design studio in downtown Scranton, PA (www.crowdesigns.com).Presently, Christine is a tenured Associate Professor of graphic design and printmaking at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Her work has been recognized and awarded nationwide. Recent exhibits of her relief printing, letterpress, book arts, textiles, animation and collage have been showcased in California, Missouri, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas. She is an active member of the AIGA, Ladies of Letterpress, Mid-Atlantic Print Council, and The Southern Graphics Council International.Christine’s love of type, design and printmaking evolved into a natural combination of designing with letterpress wood and metal type along with the digital. The work featured in this book was created primarily at The Workshop, but also in Marywood’s printmaking studio, on her dining room table, and in her garage—proving that printmaking can happen anywhere and without the use of a press.
