Writing Workshop: Making the Leap from Fact to Fiction

Writing Workshop: Making the Leap from Fact to Fiction
The Rockport Public Library will host a writing workshop on Wednesday, Apr. 30, from 12 - 4 p.m. entitled “Making the Leap from Fact to Fiction.” The free workshop will be facilitated by award-winning local writer Cynthia Reeves and will be limited to twelve participants. Those who are interested in participating should call the library at 207-236-3642 to reserve a seat.
Some of the concepts that will be considered during the workshop include: convincing the reader of the author’s “authority”; working with facts that engage emotion as well as intellect; gauging how much factual material is necessary; and exploring science-in-fiction versus science fiction.
Cynthia Reeves is the author of three books of fiction: the novel The Last Whaler (2024); the novel in stories Falling Through the New World (2024), winner of Gold Wake Press’s Fiction Award; and the novella Badlands (2007), winner of Miami University Press’s Novella Prize. A graduate of Warren Wilson's MFA program, Reeves taught in Bryn Mawr College's Creative Writing Program and Rosemont College's MFA program. She lives with her husband in Camden, Maine.
