Illinois Man Pleads Not Guilty in Basketball Player's Death

ORONO, Maine - An Illinois man says he is not guilty of killing a former University of Maine basketball player.

Fifty-one-year-old Jeffrey Keller pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in the shooting death of Nate J. Fox. Prosecutors say they might seek a life sentence. The thirty-seven-year-old Fox was living in Bloomingdale, Illinois, about 30 miles west of Chicago and working as a car salesman when he was killed Dec. 22, 2014.

The Chicago Tribunereports that prosecutors say Keller committed the killing "in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner.'' Authorities say Keller stalked Fox because he believed Fox was having an affair with a woman with whom Keller was having an "emotional affair.''

Fox starred at UMaine for two seasons from 1998 to 2000. He also played professionally in Europe.
