Police Step up Search for Maine Murder Suspect

PARKMAN, Maine - Maine State Police say they believe the 38-year-old Parkman man wanted in connection with the killing of his ex-girlfriend in early June has been breaking into camps and taking clothing and food, as well as fishing and hunting supplies.

Robert Burton has eluded authorities for nearly a month since Stephanie Gebo was found dead in her Parkman home June 5. State Police Chief Col. Robert Williams is advising people coming to the area to open up their camps to look for signs the buildings have been broken into.

"Those signs are not going to be evident," Williams says. "He's not a person that's been kicking doors in.  He will discreetly cut a screen, unlock a window and then put the screen back so you can't find it. He may jar open a window and repair it before he leaves."

Williams says police are telling area residents and those visiting for the weekend that they should not approach Burton.  They're urging anyone who sees Burton to call authorities immediately.
