At Least 2 Still in Hospital After Hayride Crash

MECHANIC FALLS, Maine - At least two people remain hospitalized in the wake of a fatal Maine hayride crash that is under investigation.

A Jeep towing a wagon full of passengers in Mechanic Falls crashed during a Halloween-themed hayride Oct. 11. The crash killed 17-year-old Cassidy Charette and injured more than 20 others. Passengers were initially sent to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

A Boston Children's Hospital spokesman says high school student Connor Garland of Belgrade is in "fair'' condition. A Maine Medical spokeswoman says it is still treating one victim and she is in "satisfactory'' condition.

A third person was still hospitalized as of Tuesday. Central Maine Medical declined to comment and St. Mary's Hospital did not return a phone call.
