Augusta Police Identify Man Shot by Police

AUGUSTA, Maine - Police in Augusta say a man shot by police at an outpatient clinic is a 36-year-old resident of the city.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon inside the offices of an outpatient clinic run by Riverview Psychiatric Center's Assertive Community Treatment team. The building is the former location of the MaineGeneral Medical Center. Deputy Police Chief Jared Mills said the shooting occurred when Officer Laura Drouin responded to a request to help take Jason Begin to the hospital.

Police said Monday that Begin was in stable condition at MaineGeneral. They say Drouin has been placed on administrative leave with pay per standard operating procedure. She was not hurt.

The attorney general's office is investigating, which is also standard procedure.
