Maine Bishop: Read the Pope's Encyclical on Climate Change

PORTLAND, Maine - Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment is stirring up discussion among Mainers. In the document issued this morning, the Pope charged citizens of the world to be more conscious about climate change and its environmental impacts.

Speaking on the Senate floor in Washington, Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King said he agreed with the Pope's scientific argument, and said the same topics have been discussed in the Senate.

"There's been lots of talk here, lots of discussion, lots of debate in committees and on this floor about the science, which I think is irrefutable," King said.

Bishop Robert Deeley of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland responded to the encyclical with a statement saying, "Our actions and choices in life involve not only ourselves, but other human beings."

Bishop Deeley is encouraging everyone to read the full encyclical.
