AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Attorney General Janet Mills has written members of Congress regarding a provision in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's budget that would limit the FDA's ability to regulate any substances containing nicotine.
"This is an effort to get them - get those products - out from under appropriate health and safety review by the FDA," Mills says, "and we are absolutely opposed to exempting these dangerous, addictive products."
Mills wrote the letter on behalf of the National Association of Attorneys General. She says it's pretty clear the provision in the budget was the result of intense lobbying by those companies selling e-cigarette-type products.
