Connecticut Brothers Rescued After Kayak Capsizes on Lake

RANGELEY, Maine — Officials say two brothers from Connecticut were rescued from a lake in Maine after one of their kayaks capsized.

The Sun Journal reports 17-year-old Mark Lovesoy's kayak capsized Tuesday on Rangeley Lake, causing him to hang on to that of his 23-year-old brother, Joel Lovesoy.

Officials say Joel Lovesoy's kayak filled with water, but he was still in it. Both of the Stafford, Connecticut, brothers were in the 55-degree water for about an hour.

Game Warden Patrick Egan says the two had tried to paddle back to Doctor's Island, but the wind, choppy water and rain prevented them from getting there.

Crews arrived and helped get them out of the water.

The two were taken to the hospital and released. Mark Lovesoy was treated for hypothermia.
