Ex-Principal in Sex Proposition Case to Plead Not Guilty

WATERVILLE, Maine - The attorney for a former Maine high school principal says his client will plead not guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from allegations that he asked a student for sex.

Forty-four-year-old former Waterville Senior High School principal Don Reiter was charged Nov. 19 after a police investigation into allegations that he asked an 18-year-old female student for sex in his office on the first day of school.

The charge of official oppression is used by prosecutors to make public officials in positions of authority accountable for misuse of office.

Reiter is due in court on Feb. 9. Attorney Walter McKee tells the Morning Sentinel he plans to file the plea in writing instead of appear in person.
