AUGUSTA, Maine_ From state lottery games to tribal casinos and slots, state lawmakers will consider several gambling bills during this legislative session.
"Who benefits from the gaming that's being proposed, whether it's, you know, tribal gaming, whether it's gaming that benefits the harness racing industry or whether it's something new that many of us have not thought about yet." explains House Majority Leader Jeff McCabe, D-Skowhegan.
Several issues, he says need to be sorted out as the state develops a gambling industry.
"There's discussion about regulating gambling, there's discussion about expanding gambling so, Maine is a gaming state and I think we sort of struggle with what that means and there will be some major decisions made on gaming this session."
Among the bills under consideration are measures to allow a tribal casino with slot machines, one allowing bingo games at campgrounds and a bill that would change the way the funds generated by existing casinos are distributed.
