Starting Monday, tenants having trouble paying their rent due to hardship caused by COVID-19 can apply for assistance under a new round of relief funding.
The COVID-19 Rental Relief Program through MaineHousing is now accepting applications from those who need help paying their rent through October and November.
Renters impacted by COVID-19 can apply for up to $1,000 per month to put toward their rent.
A MaineHousing spokesperson says if funding is still available after the October and November funds are awarded, the agency plans to start taking applications to cover December rent later this month, on Nov. 23.
MaineHousing says it has assisted about 14,000 renters with funds since the program’s creation in April.
