The Portland School Board has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Xavier Botana.
Botana had planned to retire in June 2023, but said the district’s continuing payroll issues are the reason he is stepping aside now. Botana wants to let new leadership bring closure to the payroll challenges.
His resignation is effective January 31, 2023, or the starting date of an interim superintendent, whichever comes first.
