WASHINGTON - An effort to establish a National Women's History Museum in Washington, D.C. is moving forward.
President Obama is expected to sign a bill authored by Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins that creates a privately-funded commission to prepare a report containing recommendations for establishing and maintaining the museum.
Collins says a museum recognizing the contributions of American women is long overdue.
"It's important to emphasize that this museum will portray all aspects of women's contributions to our history without partisanship or bias," Collins says.
Collins' bill was included in the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act, which has been approved by both the Senate and the House.
