PORTLAND, Maine - Maine Gov. Paul LePage took a break from State House politics Wednesday to endorse the presidential run of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a fellow Republican.
The two met at Becky's Diner on the Portland waterfront, where the Maine governor paid tribute to Christie's "leadership and his candor."
"I today am endorsing Chris Christie for the president of the United States because I think he's the real deal," LePage said. "He's been a governor, he knows what hard decisions are, he's going to make them, he's not going to be a politician and talk out of both sides of his mouth."
Christie, meanwhile, described Paul LePage as a good friend and a strong leader. When asked what he thought about accusations that LePage blackmailed a Maine charter school operator to settle a personal score, Christie said he supported the governor's stand on this and other tough issues.
