WASHINGTON - Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King weighed in today on the battle against ISIS at an Armed Services Committee hearing.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter appeared before the panel to provide an update on the fight with ISIS and heard a lot of concerns. King, an independent, told Carter that the fight must involve more than military efforts.
"We are not only engaged in a military war here, we are engaged in war of ideas," King told Carter. "And right now, we are somewhere close to a stalemate on the military side but we are losing the war of ideas."
King says he realizes the Defense Department can't do much about the war of ideas, but said the United States should realize the need to fight against the ideas that are radicalizing so many young people, including some born and raised in the United States.
